Servo-motor piston rod repairing (079)

service: mgr Wojciech £ukanowski - CHESTER MOLECULAR - Bydgoszcz
nazwa klienta: Limestone and Cement Plant

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM
The piston rod of the servo-motor of the diameter of 180mm and the length of ca. 2m got out of order during the utilization of the excavator of Bol, type LB 500, produced in Austria in 1992, used for 3 years. A leakage occurred there along with a drop in the working pressure, which made a further functioning of the piston rod impossible. Since the scar was too deep for regeneration with the galvanizing method, it was decided to supplement it with the material of Chester Molecular.

DESCRIPTION OF THE REPAIR
The scar in the piston rod was deepened with a high-speed grinder. Lateral edges were additionally machined with an interlocking cutter to have the dovetail. Ends of the scar were spotted and threaded. The regenerated surface was subject to sanding with the silicon carbide and defattened three times with Chester Cleaner. Then Chester Metal Slide was applied. After the composite hardened, the surface was machined manually with abrasive paper.

ACHIEVED EFFECTS
The piston rod has been functioning in very heavy conditions for over one month now and there has not been noted any drop in the working pressure. The application of Chester Molecular material in the regeneration saved it against a long-lasting stopover of the machine and much higher costs of the regeneration of the piston rod with the help of other methods.
